About

About the author

Growing up reading Dr. Suess, Lynley Dodd and Enid Blyton, Fiona has been jotting down stories even before she had her pen licence.

She has always been fascinated by the power of words to inspire, create change, raise awareness, and move readers.  After all, “the pen is mightier than the sword” – Edward Bulwer-Lytton.

In another life Fiona Smyth worked as a visual arts and design teacher, Christmas card designer and a prepress designer before settling into an Indigenous art gallery.

When she is not working at the gallery, she is busy writing picture book stories.

Nowadays she lives in Sydney with her mischievous twin girls and adrenaline seeking husband. She has an excessive recipe book collection (rarely used), a green thumb (debatable) and can’t resist the stationery aisle.

Her writing process is focused on character development, understanding what motivates them and exploring their vulnerabilities. Fiona’s stories aim to inspire and encourage young readers, leaving them feeling happy and uplifted.
